What did you do this past week?

This past week I had a midterm in one of my business courses. I spent quite a bit of time preparing for it. I did not have a lot of other work to complete in other classes. I took a look on how to work with filtering on the front end side for one of the models.

What’s in your way?

Currently, there is nothing much in my way. If I stay focused on my tasks, I should be able to finish everything I have due at a reasonable time.

What will you do next week?

Next week, I will do more tasks on the front end such as the highlighting feature, handling sorting and filtering on the model pages, and writing front end unit tests. I have an assignment due for my Neural Networks class which I will be taking some time to do. Other than that, I do not have any major assignments or exams in my remaining courses.

If you read it, what did you think of the Paper #11: Getters and Setters?

I did read this paper, and I thought it brought up some interesting points. In our introductory Computer Science courses, we were taught that it was not a problem to have getters and setters. However, this paper does bring up some interesting points on why we should avoid it. It also ties into issues brought up in previous papers, which was helpful in understanding these concepts.

What was your experience of relational algebra, select, and project? (this question will vary, week to week)

I have not really used relational algebra, so this week was completely new information. I think that select is a useful operation, and I feel like it would be helpful for the people who are working back end, as they can find a similar operation in their back-end framework.

What made you happy this week?

I traveled back home to celebrate a religious festival with my family and friends. I met up with a friend who I did not see for quite a while. I really had a lot of fun with everyone.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip of the week is to have a planner so that you can schedule your work. I normally lay out the tasks that I need to complete at the start of the day, and I then allocate a certain amount of time for each task. I also look ahead, and I try to see if I can get a head start on any work that is due later. This helps me stay focused and keep myself track. I think this is a great strategy for people who are struggling with time management.
